Iyakkunar Sigaram won Sigaram of Awards. Our K Balachander has been chosen for Dada Saheb Phalke award for his contribution for the Indian film industry.
Happy to receive the award, he said also he thanked all artistes, technicians and producers who had worked with him throughout his unstoppable career.
K Balachander has directed films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. He is known for his distinct filmmaking style. The films he scripts and directs analyse unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes.
In his career, he has contributed to the Tamil film industry in South India, and has introduced hundreds of actors in Tamil Cinema including Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj and Vivek. He also own a production house, Kavithalaya Productions. He was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award in 1987. In 2011, he was presented with ANR National Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh.He is popularly known as Iyakkunar Sikaram in Kollywood.
